Backyard Landscape Transformation

Final Product After Backyard Landscaping Services

This comprehensive landscaping project included hardscaping, drainage solutions, landscape lighting, and custom design features to elevate both the function and beauty of the home’s exterior. The GreenKeepers of Athens is proud to have transformed this property into a well-designed, sustainable outdoor space.

This landscape transformation project in Athens, GA involved a variety of major services designed to enhance both the function and aesthetic of the property. We focused on improving the driveway, sidewalks, backyard, and adding custom features like landscape lighting and artificial turf. Below are the key services performed during the project:

1. Driveway and Sidewalk Updates

We expanded the driveway apron, increased the boat parking pad near the house, and widened both sidewalks to a consistent 3.5-foot width. The front sidewalk was given soft, flowing curves, while the side door sidewalk was turned 90 degrees for better access. This change included the addition of 150 square feet of concrete, creating a more spacious and functional entrance.

2. Backyard Retaining Walls and Steps

The backyard received a complete makeover with the installation of an engineered block retaining wall and three steps from the driveway to the lower backyard. The wall, measuring 70' long x 5' high, curves around the existing porch steps and leads to a pine tree, creating visual interest and better-defined spaces. We also added 17 additional retaining wall blocks and 24 cap blocks to enhance the structure's stability and aesthetic appeal.

3. Landscape Lighting

To improve the ambiance and highlight the landscape, we installed low-voltage landscape lighting throughout the front and backyard. The lighting includes up lights, path lights, and strategically placed LED bulbs to accentuate key features such as the deck, retaining wall, and water feature.

4. New Privacy Fence

We constructed a 6-foot privacy fence with a 5-foot gate by the driveway. The fence was custom-designed to match the existing deck, utilizing horizontal 1x6 boards. The fence includes both sides exposed, adding a sleek, modern look to the property.

5. Artificial Turf Installation

In the backyard, we installed artificial turf across an area of approximately 1,100 square feet. This involved site excavation, base gravel installation, and securing the turf for a smooth, well-maintained lawn that requires minimal upkeep.

6. Firewood Cover Installation

A firewood cover was designed and installed between the retaining wall and the existing deck. Using brown composite decking and decorative colored tin, this feature blends seamlessly into the landscape while providing practical storage for firewood.

7. Tree Removal and Site Clearing

As part of the project, we removed six trees, including large oaks and pines that were interfering with the driveway and other structures. The stumps were removed, and any potential damage to the driveway during removal was addressed.

8. Concrete Driveway and Sidewalk Replacement

The entire existing driveway and sidewalk were removed, and new concrete was poured after grading and compacting the base. This added significant curb appeal and functionality to the property's entryway.
